Limewash

Soft, cloudy mineral finishes with the depth paint cannot copy

Free EstimateAll of Manhattan · Mon – Sat

Limewash is one of the oldest finishes there is and one of the most beautiful: a mineral wash made from slaked lime and natural pigment that soaks into the wall instead of sitting on top of it, so the color has a soft, cloudy movement that changes with the light through the day. It suits plaster, drywall, brick and masonry, it is breathable and naturally mold-resistant, and it has no acrylic sheen. We apply limewash across Manhattan in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and entryways, in stone, sand, clay and chalk tones, brushed on in the crosshatch strokes that give it its character.

Our Process

1

Consult & Sample

We talk about the room and the light, mix a color, and brush a sample on the wall so you see it in place before deciding.

2

Prep & Prime

Surfaces repaired and cleaned; drywall gets a mineral primer so the wash bonds and the movement shows evenly.

3

First Coat

The limewash is brushed on in loose, crossing strokes and left to cure — it dries lighter and softer than it goes on.

4

Second Coat & Finish

A second coat builds the depth. The room is cleaned and handed back once the finish has cured.
